Abriendo las alas / Opening our Wings
Acrylic, embroidery, jute and aguayo fabric on canvas
102 x 76 x 4 cm
Abriendo las alas captures that quiet yet powerful moment when something within us begins to shift.
The bird, poised with its wings open, becomes a reflection of the woman’s inner world — a symbol of growth, courage and the possibilities that emerge when we begin to trust our own path.
The work explores the idea that our wings are formed slowly, often without us noticing: through experience, uncertainty, falling, beginning again, and everything we gather along the way. Until one day, we realise we are ready to open them and discover how far they might carry us.
Surrounded by warmth, light and nature, the figure looks upward with a sense of calm and possibility. Her flight is not about leaving behind who she is, but about expanding — carrying every part of her story with her as she continues to grow.
Through layered colour, textile, jute and hand embroidery, Opening My Wings brings together elements that have become central to my practice: the feminine inner world, nature, memory and the quiet transformations that shape who we become.
Perhaps we all carry invisible wings. Sometimes, we simply need the courage to open them.
